Basic Introduction
Hi, I'm December Winterwolf... if you couldn't already tell by the homepage, haha! I'm a Catholic English-Italian university student working towards a degree in Computer Science so I can at least make some sense of what the heck is going on with the devices everyone's using every second of every day. I also like to draw (although I've been somewhat slacking off lately), listen to music, play videogames, and read books! Oh, and erm... if it wasn't obvious enough, I'm a girl. Should probably mention that somewhere. Feels strange calling myself a woman, even though I'm in my 20s, drink alcohol sometimes, and drive quite a bit when I'm home, but I guess that's just how life goes. I wonder if I'll feel any better about it in my 30s.
Some not-so Frequently Asked Questions!
- What do you like to draw?
Mostly animals, whether feral or anthropomorphic! I've had a slight uptick of feral drawings as of late, thanks to both my wish to redesign the Pup Cadets and my desire to draw header images for my WCO cats, but I do like drawing anthros still, especially since I've been thinking of making a couple of tweaks to my fursona's design... I can also draw humans to some extent, but I fear I'm out of practice in that department, which isn't great. On the plus side, I think I've been getting a bit more background practice from doing Animal Jam Classic commissions, and while I know the differences between the Painting minigame and Clip Studio Paint EX are quite substantial (Painting minigame is genuinely worse than Microsoft Paint, at least on Classic), I've been enjoying myself... hopefully my skills on Animal Jam translate at least somewhat to CSP. I've been thinking of trying out animation memes for over six years by now, after becoming obsessed with them in 2020 as a teen, but that's still yet to come, it seems. I'm doing a bit of research into OpenToonz, as that has a more proper-looking skeleton system than manually tweening everything in CSP, but we'll wait and see what happens. I've also been hoping to join Artfight this year, after knowing about it for maybe 2 years, but because my family always goes somewhere in July that's usually been a hurdle I've been unable to overcome. That said, we're going abroad for less than a week this summer, so I should realistically be able to finish a couple of attacks, God willing!
- What music do you like to listen to?
I'd say my taste is a bit all over the place, but I tend to enjoy songs with more distinct melodies, so I'm not much of a fan of really heavy metal or rap. I tend to listen to different music depending on what I'm using, so for example I usually have Classic FM on in my car while I drive, I mostly have handpicked songs on my iPod Classic 6th gen (Rockbox for the win!), I have some full albums on CD (thinking of investing in a few ABBA disks myself), and on my laptop I have both songs that will eventually end up on my iPod and ones that classify more as shitposts than anything else cough cough Flying Battery Romance cough In The End You're An All Star cough. Out of all the genres I know of, I'd say pop and rock are the ones I listen to the most, with most of the rock being alt metal or progressive (progressive? In my Catholic totally-not-furry??). In terms of a favourite band overall... Muse's discography is all-round pretty solid, same as ABBA. I also quite like some of the songs I hear during Mass, but I tend to prefer more traditional chants than modern songs... I think worship songs can be quite hit or miss, but it's quite rare I don't like a chant. This includes both listening and singing, as I've been in church choirs for a good number of years, even if it's generally been more of a hobby thing. Once I get my Bachelor's, I might try and sneak into a more permanent position at my local church's choir, but due to family commitments and timetable shenanigans, I'm not sure how well that will go.
- What videogames do you like to play?
Good grief, this may take a while. I do have a general preference for more puzzle-oriented games (especially since I really like Professor Layton, Ace Attorney, and Minesweeper), but I do often play more social games, such as the aforementioned Animal Jam (mostly Classic, but sometimes Play Wild), Polytoria (say what you want about it being a Roblox ripoff, but it's fostered a far more social atmosphere than Roblox ever had, at least for me), Pony Town, and sometimes Club Penguin Legacy. I'm not hugely into virtual pets, but I do have a Nintendogs cartridge with 3 puppies (Johnny Boy, Bella and PSTwo!!), and I also happen to own three different versions of Animal Crossing (Wild World, New Leaf, New Horizons), four if you count Pocket Camp Complete. I'd say I play most of my games either on PC or on DS/3DS (Roblox Piggy, Polytoria, Animal Jam, Layton, Nintendogs, Ace Attorney), although I do have a couple of other consoles... five in total: Game Boy Advance SP AGS-001 (front-lit model), Nintendo DSi, New Nintendo 3DS LL (Japanese XL), Nintendo Switch Lite, and PlayStation Vita PCH-2000 (second release). I expect I'll be playing on my Switch more often, now that I have a small collection of games for it such as Sonic X Shadow Generations, Sonic Mania Plus, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Skyrim (fun fact, that was the first purchase I ever got ID'd for), but I have a few games on Vita that I enjoy as well, such as Tearaway, LittleBigPlanet Vita, Super Meat Boy, and most notably, Minecraft! My GB/GBC/GBA collection is mostly Pokemon, but I do have some other games such as Tetris, Wario Land, Mario and Yoshi, The Sims 2: Pets Expansion (yes, there's the Sims on the GBA), Donkey Kong Country GBA, and Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab (Spongebob shovelware game where you play a bunch of dream sequences). My family has owned a PlayStation 2 for as long as I can remember, so the first videogames I ever played were on there, of course (that and the CBeebies website, they had a lot of Flash games on there... I have a fuzzy memory of playing some LazyTown one in 2009-ish), with the most memorable ones being Gran Turismo 4, Goldeneye (was far too scared to play myself so I mostly watched my dad and my brother), and Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey. We did gain a copy of FIFA 2004 some time in the pandemic, but by then I hadn't touched the PS2 in a while.
- What books do you like to read?
Despite being in my 20s, most of the books I've enjoyed reading are aimed at children. I don't mean bedtime story levels of simplicity (although, the original Railway Engines stories are proving to be quite entertaining...), but things like Watership Down, Warrior Cats and Harry Potter are definitely up there among my favourites. I also enjoyed The Neverending Story and its dual message of both allowing your creative side to manifest itself and simultaneously ensuring you don't let it spiral out of control and cause problems for yourself and everyone around you, it's a shame they didn't showcase that second part in the films very well. I guess it's just how the film industry goes, it's a lot easier to market "follow your dreams" than "but don't let them get in the way of you having a life", and hey, I was pleasantly surprised when I read the book, so that's a plus! I have read some books meant for older audiences like Wuthering Heights, but not many. I'll be starting A Room with a View after I finish Thomas the Tank Engine: The Complete Collection (all of Rev W. Awdry's Railway Series books), and then I'll probably be moving onto The Great Gatsby afterwards, I hear it's got a sudden depressing twist at the end and that's definitely got me excited, haha! As for Warrior Cats, I've finished The New Prophecy, and am looking to read Power of Three and Firestar's Quest next, I just need to somehow borrow them from my brother's girlfriend and finish them all before I head back to uni in mid-September. Greatly looking forward to what happens, even if I fear I've already been spoiled a few things.
- Are you really a furry? (TL;DR, no)
The following paragraph contains discussions of sexual topics. Reader discretion is advised.
I definitely tick off a lot of the furry boxes, I'll admit that. I have a fursona, who has acted as my anonymity layer online since November of 2019; I draw quite a lot of animals, as I previously established; a solid chunk of my OCs are themselves anthropomorphic; I have a soft spot for animal characters in general; I always preferred playing with animals toys as a child rather than dolls, be they Lego Friends animals, random assorted animals from whatever toy sets we got, and Sylvanian Families; I have sometimes thought about the prospect of owning and wearing a fursuit, and have been quite entertained by it, even if it would be unrealistic for me to actually use it much. If we go by that definition, then yes, I am a furry. I do not, however, like to refer to myself as one. There are a couple of reasons, but the main ones are to do with the pervasion of LGBTQ+ ideologies and the sexual side. A large portion of furries fall somewhere under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, whether it's identifying as a gender different to their sex, or experiencing same-sex attraction, and because of the expressive nature of the community and how it touts itself as a haven for social outcasts to be themselves as one of its core beliefs, I would prefer not to be portrayed as someone who accepts homosexual or transgender lifestyles. This self-expression also ties into sexual encounters, with some furries viewing their fursonas as tools for exploration of sexual orientations and fetishes. The only fetishes I am currently (and unfortunately) aware of that I was not introduced to via the furry fandom were vore, feet, and other forms of sizeplay; some of the ones I have been made aware of via furries include inflation, ageplay and age regression roleplay, diaperfurs and ABDL (Adult Baby Diaper Lover), pup play, and BDSM in general (never mind, while searching up what BDSM stands for I stumbled across rubber fetishism... thanks Wikipedia). It's even gotten to a point that many outsiders view the furry fandom as a highly sexual hobby, and as much as some furries may try to say it's only a small part of the fandom, my experience would beg to differ - sex is pretty much a main feature. All in all, it's not hard to see why this clashes strongly with the Catholic faith, and why I would rather not be tied to that particular group. I don't mind if people say "oh are you a furry" or "December is a furry" if they have no idea about my stance on the matter, but now that you do know, I would much prefer you avoid using that term if referring to me.
- Favourite alcohol?
Port, no questions asked. I'm much more of a wine person than beer because of the flavour, so it only makes sense that port is the winner. I don't like to drink much alcohol in general, though, usually one glass every month or so is enough. J2O for the win. And Irn Bru, can't forget Irn Bru. I'm always a little saddened whenever I go into a supermarket and can't find Irn Bru. Orangina is peak too, but that's only really a French thing, so that's one thing they got right at least.
